School Trip to Spain: Cadiz and El Puerto de Santa Maria
We were happy to welcome Boston Spa in El Puerto de Santa María in April 2025! The group stayed with us in our Spark Residence where they took part in our Spanish classes and learned about the Spanish culture through the cultural activities that the Spark team had organized.
At Spark, we pride ourselves on offering students the chance to immerse themselves fully in Spanish culture and language. This year, we had the pleasure of hosting a group from Boston Spa School for an unforgettable week in the heart of Spain, where every day brought new adventures, new lessons, and invaluable experiences. After a smooth journey, our guests from Boston Spa School arrived in El Puerto de Santa María.

The first evening was all about getting to know the area, with a delicious BBQ dinner followed by a relaxing walk to the beach. The day ended with a peaceful bedtime, as everyone was ready to dive into their cultural journey. The next day, the group kicked off with a hearty breakfast before attending their first Spanish lesson at Spark. We focused on practical Spanish, helping the students feel more confident navigating the streets and shops of El Puerto. After the class, it was time for a guided tour of the local castle, a fascinating experience that brought the students closer to the region’s rich history. The day continued with a ferry ride to Cádiz, where the students explored the beautiful city before heading back to El Puerto for a relaxing dinner and a fun-filled evening of karaoke.

Wednesday was an exciting day, starting with a walk through the charming streets of El Puerto to a local cafe for a classic Spanish treat: churros con chocolate. The students loved the experience! After their morning lesson, they participated in a hands-on paella cooking class, where they learned how to prepare this iconic Spanish dish. In the afternoon, we took them to the beautiful Torre Tavira in Cádiz for some spectacular views of the city. As evening fell, the group enjoyed a theater performance at the Roman Theater, further deepening their cultural immersion.

Thursday was packed with activities that showcased the diversity of Spain’s culture. The day began with a flamenco dance class, where students tried their best to follow the passionate rhythms of this famous Spanish dance. After a fulfilling lunch, it was time for some relaxation at the beach, soaking in the sun and practicing their Spanish with the locals. The day ended with a farewell dinner at a local restaurant, where the students savored the last moments of their journey.
As we headed back to the coach to travel to Malaga, there was a mixture of emotions—happiness from the incredible memories made, but also a little sadness as the journey came to an end. After checking in at the airport, the group boarded the plane, ready to return to the UK, filled with stories, new friends, and a deep appreciation for the Spanish language and culture.
This trip was a perfect blend of learning, adventure, and cultural exchange. At Spark, we believe that these immersive experiences help students develop not only their language skills but also a broader understanding of the world. We’re already looking forward to welcoming more groups like Boston Spa School in the future, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
We at Spark are beyond proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity, and positivity that Ellon Academy’s students brought to this adventure. Their willingness to embrace new experiences, challenge themselves linguistically, and immerse in the Spanish way of life was inspiring.
¡Hasta pronto, amigos! We can’t wait to welcome you back for another Spark experience!
