Reay’s school group experience was an exciting first travel to Spain. The school did a primary school trip with us and they children were so excited to learn and discover new things about the Spanish way of life. Everything started in Gibraltar, where they were picked up by the chaperone and carried to their new residence and academy in El Puerto, Spark. We enjoyed that very first day a nice barbecue, and then they had time to unpack and get familiar with Sparkville.
The next day, we had churros con chocolate, a very typical Spanish breakfast, after
that we visited the market to buy some Spanish snacks and then, after stopping by the
Prioral Church to take some photos, we went to the the Castle of El Puerto, where the
students could enjoy the tour made by two guides. When we were finished, we came
back to Spark to have a snack and start the rotation: divided in two groups, both of
them had the opportunity to learn the traditional recipe of paella in a masterclass, and
to have another interactive class to learn more Spanish. When the rotation ended, we
could taste the amazing flavour that paella had! They did amazingly well!
So, after lunch, with energy, we went to the beach to spend the evening there enjoying the nice weather and the good temperature of water. After all that playing and running, Reay
ended the day going to a typical Spanish restaurant to experience “tapas”, and they
absolutely loved the variety and quality of this kind of food.
On Wednesday, we had our last Spanish lesson, and after that, Cádiz was waiting for
them, the capital! This city felt magnetic and exotic to them, we had lunch in front of
the cathedral and it felt like a privilege. The man playing flamenco music, the sound
of the sea, the atmosphere… After that, Reay had the opportunity to visit the
Phoenicians remains in Yacimiento Arqueológico, learning thanks to an expert the
interesting facts about this ancient civilization. Then we visited the most special tower
in Cádiz: the Tavira Tower and its Obscure Camera, where you can see all places of
Cádiz from an advanced kind of telescope. After all that cultural information, it was
time to go shopping and get some nice souvenirs for the friends, so the students had a
great time exploring the shops and looking for some treasures of Cádiz.
When we came back to Spark, we shared a meal for dinner together in the rooftop,
and it was time to celebrate our departure ceremony, where the kids had a very special
night full of surprises, they all received a well-deserved certificate from Spark and seemed very happy to have traveled to Spain. At the farewell on the bus the next day, so many of them promised to come back someday.
We enjoyed our time with Reay Primary here and hope it was a memorable experience for everyone.
