Former capital of the Mexico empire (circa 1867), Quértaro sits 2 hours NW of Mexico city and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Whether it is the amicable people, the stunning architecture (aqueducts run throughout the city supplying the city with fresh spring water), or the cultural importance of this town to Mexico, one can’t help but wonder, why haven’t I come here sooner?
Getting There: Fly into Querétaro Airport (QRO) located about 25 minutes by car from downtown. Taxis are about $20 one-way to te city center. From the Mexico City Airport (MEX), it is a three-hour bus trip to Querétaro on the Primera Plus (Aeroplus) bus line. Tickets cost approx. $22 one way . Buses leave directly from the airport.
Accent: Clean, slow Spanish; great for beginners

Safety: Currently holds the title as safest place in Mexico. But it goes without saying, be wary of your personal possessions all all times.
