Study Spanish in Cuernevaca, Mexico

An hour south of Mexico city, Cuernavaca has become the premier destination for studying Spanish in Mexico. In fact, at last count there were over 50 schools. Cuernevaca is also know as the City of Eternal Spring and is very popular for its yearly temperate climate.

Getting There: Fly into Mexico City. You have the option of a flight into Cuernevaca or a luxury bus. Pullman de Morelos offers a luxury commuter bus that leaves frequently for Cuernavaca from international terminals 1 and 2 at the Mexico City airport. This non-stop bus offers round trip transportation to and from Cuernevaca’s Camino de la Selva bus station. The fee is approximately $13 one way. *Schools also provide airport transfers for $80+ for single.

Accent: Clean, slow Spanish; great for beginners

Prices range from $300- $400 a week and include the following:

  • 20 hours + of private or group Spanish classes a week
  • 7 days accommodation at host family with 6 days of meals. No meals on Sunday. *some schools only include 2 meals a day.
  • Sometimes a registration fee is included, could range as much as $100
  • Free/reduced price excursions with schools like dancing, cooking classes and afternoon trips

Popular Schools:

Accommodation: Schools have standard home stays as part of the language package but students are allowed to reserve independent accommodation.Hostel rates range from $15-25 depending on your privacy wants/needs.

Navigation: If you are reasonably mobile you should be able to walk anywhere within the city without strain. Rent-a-Bikes are also a good way to get around, they rent for about $5.

Safety: Tourism is the #1 industry here, so crime is low in the more populous areas of town. Beware of petty theft like pick pockets.

Excursions/Trips: Acapulco, Taxco and Mexico City are all close and excellent weekend trips.
