Quito is the capital of Ecuador and has many gems to keep the Spanish student interested after Spanish lessons end. The city lies snugly between mountains and offers a year round moderate climate plus a wonderful old town.
Getting There: Fly into Quito airport; Take taxi to your school/hostel (Approx $5)
Accent: One of the cleaner accents in Latin America, not as smooth as Mexico or Guatemala
- 4 + hours a day of private Spanish classes per week
- 7 days accommodation at either host family or hotel
- 6 days of meals (if you opted for host family option)
- free/reduced price excursions with Spanish School
Quito Schools:
- Simon Bolivar- very reputable name in Ecuador (Quito and Cuenca schools)
- Equinox Spanish- pricier option but you get what you pay for ($300+ a week with accommodation)
- Cristobal Colon- $185- $215 per week; airport pickup $10.
Navigation: Old Town is pretty large but Quito has a transportation service and taxis are relatively cheap.
Safety: Felt very safe in Quito, obviously, walk anywhere with caution being a visitor.
Trips/Excursions: There is much to see and do in Quito. Checking out the ancient cobbled streets of old Quito can make for some fun afternoons. Quito resides in the actual the center of the world, which is a fun excursion or try the Teleferiq in Quito.
