Study Spanish in Montanita, Ecuador

Montanita is exactly what you expect from a beach town. Plenty of surf, tasty seafood, and a laid back lifestyle. In fact, this town is the surfing capital of Ecuador. Many expats call this place home and it is definitely entrenched on the backpackers circuit. Restaurants and bars catering to westerners encase the small thoroughfares.

Getting There: Fly into Guayaquil airport. Montanita is a few hours by bus.

Accent: Nice even accent

Prices range from $180-350 a week and include the following:
  • 4 + hours  a day of private Spanish classes per week
  • 7 days accommodation at either host family or hotel (prices vary depending on off or on-season)
  • 6 days of meals (if you opted for host family option)
  • free/reduced price excursions with Spanish School

Schools:

Montinita City Street

Navigation: 2 main streets with beach in the background. Very navigable. Plenty of internet cafes as well.

Safety: No crime, albeit petty theft. Large expat population resides here.

Trips/Excursions: Plenty of water sports to partake (surf, scuba, snorkel). Machalilla National Park and Salango are excellent day trips.
